Notes
Written for fic_promptly back in february. The prompt was house-cleaning.
The sound of the stepping stool being dropped back onto the floor was nearly drowned out by the music coming from the stereo at the other end of the room, blasting Verosika Mayday’s latest album. After Angel had bought it when it came out last week, it had been playing near constantly.
Lucifer climbed the steps, standing at the top. With a frown, he judged the distance to the top of Angel’s shelves, full of movies, CDs and pet toys.
Standing on his tiptoes, he reached up, still coming up several decimetres short from reaching to clean on top of it.
“Hey Angel?”
He could hear the vacuum being turned off in the kitchen, Angel’s voice answering a second later. “Yeah?”
“Can you help me clean the top of the shelves?”
Angel swung himself through the door. The sight of him in Lucifer’s duck headband made him smile.
“Yeah, sure.”
Before he could step off the stool, Angel had joined him on top of it, his arms wrapping around him to hoist him high into the air, leaving Lucifer’s legs dangling.
Lucifer looked up at Angel. He could tell that he was barely holding back his laughter.
“You know that’s not what I meant.”
“Really? Ya shoulda specified.”
“Are we playing by djinn rules, here?”
At Lucifer’s indignant expression, Angel cracked, laughing loudly as he lifted him higher.
Finally, Lucifer was high enough to be able to see the top of the shelves. As Angel held him there, he started wiping the dust away with the rag in his hand.
“Jesus, when’s the last time you dusted up here?”
“When Jesus walked the earth.”
That made Lucifer snort, wanting to laugh despite his (very mild) annoyance. He could hear Angel snicker, clearly very pleased with himself.
Lucifer tapped Angel’s arm as he finished cleaning. “You can put me down now.”
He felt Angel’s arms squeeze around him, lowering him just enough to nuzzle his cheek, yet not putting him back down onto the stool. “Mm, nah, I think I’ll hold ya a lil’ while longer.”
“I thought we were supposed to be cleaning.”
“Five-ten minute break’s not gonna make us run late. ‘Sides, you’re the one insistin’ we needed to clean. No one’s gonna care ‘bout some dust.”
“What kind of host would I be if I didn’t make sure this place is spick-and-span?”
“A perfectly fine one.”
Angel stepped down from the stool, keeping him in his arms despite Lucifer’s squirming. “Ten minutes?”
Lucifer stared up at Angel, at the sweet look he put on, eyelashes batting down at him. Finally, he caved.
“Alright. Ten minutes. But then we go back to cleaning.”
Angel whooped, dropping down onto the couch, Lucifer landing in his lap with a bounce. He loosened his grip enough for Lucifer to turn, sitting sideways in his lap, duck-socked feet on the seat next to them. Nuggets took the chance to wiggle his way onto Lucifer’s lap, making them both laugh.
Lucifer scratched Nuggets’ chin, before turning back to Angel, who looked way too satisfied for only having wormed his way into a few minutes break.
He huffed a tiny laugh, wrapping his arms around Angel’s shoulders, pulling him down. He pressed a soft kiss to his lips, tasting the strawberry chapstick still lingering on them.
“You know, if we get cleaning done early, we’ve still got some time for some fun before our guests arrive.”
Angel’s eyes narrowed, his lips splitting into a wide grin. “So we don’t have time for breaks, but we got time for a quickie?”
A laugh slipped out of Lucifer as Angel pushed his hand up his sweater. He pulled it back down again, pressing a kiss to Angel’s fingers. “I said ‘after’, didn’t I?”
Pressing another kiss to Lucifer’s lips, Angel picked Nuggets off Lucifer’s lap, the pig clearly annoyed at being picked off so soon after getting comfortable.
“We better get that cleanin’ done then.”
As Lucifer stood up, he offered Angel a hand, pulling him up. As they got back to cleaning, he could tell Angel was doing his part with renewed motivation.
The sooner they were done with cleaning, the sooner they could have some fun, after all.
